Western Victoria is one of the worlds most Volcanic areas with approx 400 old volcanoes in the area, we drive through this area and visit Hanging Rock and Mt. Franklin. This is also Gold rush area from the 1850 & 1860s and we visit some of the Gold Mining towns on the way. At this time 1/3 of the worlds Gold came from Victoria.
Hanging Rock is the remains of a old Volcano, we can climb to the top of this tower of rocks.
Mt Franklin is a small volcano which we can drive to the top of and walk amongst the trees on the top rim, it is possible to still find small burnt stones from the last eruption 1000's of years ago.
This tour can be joined with a trip to Melbourne or the Great Ocean Road as well, as it is on the way.
